Google Video: MySQL Performance Tuning Best Practices

I stumbled upon this last night and it's excellent.



If your too lazy to watch this, just take this one tip from me - use the MySQL Administrator tool to increase the Cache Size setting under the Performance tab. You will notice immediate speed-up on heavily-loaded servers where the 32Mb cache just wasn't enough.

DCHQ Work Environment

Outside my 2nd floor office window here in Cork City I currently have:
  1. A busking jazz band wailing from speakers.
  2. Lots of loitering Spanish students.
  3. A very large and roudy stag group from England
  4. Trucks & Cars coming and going
  5. Shoppers all around
  6. The too-and-fro of city worker - lunch hour rush
  7. The echo guy (a city fixture yelling "Echo... echo".
Maybe we should consider relocation...
The solution: Noise on noise - turning on Linkin Park and getting stuck in.

Javascript Validation: Don't use WITH keyword

Using the with keyword is considered bad javascript programming style
because the javascript engine has to do a lot of work to interpret what you mean.

So don't use

with( document.registrationForm )
{
if( userEmail.value.length == 0 )...

Instead use:

var f = document.registrationForm;
if( f.userEmail.value.length == 0 )...
